James Gracey, a 20-year-old student at the University of Alabama, was reported missing after a night out in Barcelona. He was last seen at Shoko, a beachfront nightclub, around 3 a.m. on March 17. Tragically, his body was later discovered in the waters off Somorrostro beach.

Prior to the recovery of his body, Gracey’s wallet was found floating in the water, raising concerns among friends and family. Authorities have since ruled out foul play, but the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain under investigation.

Gracey was visiting friends studying abroad in Spain during spring break when he went missing. He was a junior at the University of Alabama and a graduate of Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago. His family expressed their heartbreak, stating, “Our family is heartbroken as we confirm that Jimmy’s body has been recovered in Barcelona.”

The University of Alabama released a statement saying, “Jimmy’s loss is deeply felt across our campus,” while Theta Chi CEO Mike Mayer added, “The prayers of the brotherhood of Theta Chi are with Jimmy and all who love him.”

In a concerning twist, Gracey’s phone was reported stolen shortly after he was last seen, further complicating the timeline of events. The U.S. State Department has been alerted regarding the situation, and a Memorial Mass is planned for Gracey at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago.

As the investigation continues, observers are left to grapple with the tragic loss of a young life. Details remain unconfirmed, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as they piece together the events leading to Gracey’s death.
