“I am very excited to begin this next chapter of my career with Orlando City,” said Antoine Griezmann, confirming his transfer from Atlético Madrid to Orlando City SC.
Griezmann, a 35-year-old forward and 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, has signed a contract that begins in July 2026 and extends through the 2027-28 season, with an option for 2028-29.
His move to Orlando marks a significant moment for both the player and the club, as Griezmann has been a standout performer in European football. He is Atlético Madrid’s all-time leading scorer with 211 goals and has accumulated a total of 298 goals and 132 assists across 792 professional appearances.
Mark Wilf, co-owner of Orlando City SC, stated, “Bringing Antoine to Orlando is a landmark moment not only for our club, but for our city, our supporters and for Major League Soccer.”
Ricardo Moreira, the club’s sporting director, praised Griezmann, calling him “a complete footballer—creative, intelligent, clinical—and he is a proven winner on the biggest stages of the game.”
Griezmann’s career has been decorated with accolades, including being named LaLiga’s Player of the Year in the 2015-16 season and winning the Golden Boot at the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
In the current season with Atlético Madrid, Griezmann has logged 13 goals and four assists, showcasing his continued prowess on the field.
Following his retirement from international play in 2024, Griezmann’s focus now shifts entirely to his club career, where he aims to make a significant impact in Major League Soccer.
As he prepares for this new chapter, Griezmann reflected on his discussions with Orlando City, saying, “From my first conversations with the Club, I could feel a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, and that really spoke to me.”
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the financial aspects of the transfer, but the excitement surrounding Griezmann’s arrival is palpable.
