A fire broke out at the Fuyao Glass America plant in Moraine, Ohio, around 8:30 p.m. on March 22, 2026. The blaze prompted immediate evacuations, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Firefighters faced challenging conditions, including strong storms and 40 mph winds, which hampered their efforts to control the flames.
The fire originated on the roof of the facility, which is significant as it is a newer part of the complex where new manufacturing lines were being established. Fire crews utilized thousands of gallons of water to combat the fire, while electric service to the plant was cut to assist their operations.
Residents in the vicinity reported a strong chemical smell and visible smoke, raising concerns about air quality. Tim Turpin, a local resident, noted, “There’s a haze in the air, and a really strong chemical smell,” while his neighbor, Sue Turpin, added, “And we can smell it in our house.”
Fuyao Glass America, which opened its Moraine facility in 2016, employs over 2,000 people and is a major player in the automotive glass market, producing 30% of all automotive glass in the U.S. The company had recently invested significantly in expanding its production capacity, adding 600,000 square feet of space in 2025.
Doug Hatcher, a local official, praised the fire crews for their efforts under tough conditions, stating, “Fire crews did a good job under tough conditions.” The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and details remain unconfirmed.
