Heavy snow warnings have been issued for six states, including Hawaii, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, and Alaska. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of hazardous conditions due to heavy snow, ice, and strong winds.
In Hawaii, parts are under a winter storm warning with an expected additional 3 inches of snow. Travel could be very difficult to impossible, as blowing snow may reduce visibility to zero.
Maine is likely to see light snowfall and a risk of freezing drizzle, leading to slippery roads. Similarly, New Hampshire is expecting light snow and freezing drizzle, which could create hazardous conditions for drivers.
Northern New York is bracing for ice and freezing drizzle until Monday morning, impacting the morning commute. Meanwhile, Alaska’s Prince of Wales Island is forecast to receive up to 5 inches of snow by Monday morning, while Sitka could see between 4 and 6 inches with winds reaching 35 mph.
The NWS has also warned that travel by air, land, and sea could be affected in Alaska. The storm system is expected to dump up to 10 inches of snow in higher elevations and northern corridors.
According to the NWS, “the combination of rapid accumulation and gusty winds will significantly reduce visibility, creating life-threatening conditions.” A temperature drop of up to 40 degrees is also anticipated in some regions.
The current weather trajectory indicates that the most severe impacts will be felt across the Northeast and parts of the Pacific Northwest. Observers are closely monitoring the situation as conditions develop.
Details remain unconfirmed.
