Heat advisory: Boca Raton Faces with Extreme Temperatures

heat advisory — US news

Boca Raton is facing a week of extreme heat with dangerously high temperatures and an extreme UV Index. Starting April 30, temperatures will hover near 90°F, with ‘RealFeel’ indices climbing to 96°F.

A heat advisory will be issued when the National Weather Service identifies heat-related hazards. The UV Index is expected to reach extreme levels of 12.0 during the week.

This shift follows previous weather expectations, which did not predict such high temperatures. Residents should prepare for a week of two halves: a dangerously hot and bright start followed by thunderstorms.

As of early Tuesday, OSHA’s updated National Emphasis Program focuses on heat-related hazards in high-risk industries. Heat illness remains a serious hazard for indoor and outdoor workers, leading to preventable injuries and fatalities every year.

Residents are advised to seek shade during peak UV hours from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Humidity levels may exacerbate the situation, making it crucial for people to stay hydrated and monitor their health.

The revised National Emphasis Program is effective immediately and will be in place for five years. This program uses data from OSHA and the Bureau of Labor Statistics from 2022-2025 to direct inspection priorities.
