A powerful storm, identified as a tornado, caused significant damage in Mineral Wells, Texas, early Tuesday. Several people were injured, with two taken to Palo Pinto General Hospital.
The National Weather Service preliminarily rated the tornado as EF-2. Approximately 2,200 customers lost power due to the storm damage.
A citywide curfew was implemented in heavily impacted areas of Mineral Wells. The curfew restricts travel from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. City officials stated that people are not permitted to remain within the affected area unless authorized.
Reports indicate debris, downed trees, and leaning power lines scattered across the region. The storm caused extensive damage to an industrial park, shredding buildings and roofs.
Emergency responders worked overnight assessing the damage. They continue to evaluate the situation as reports come in.
Mineral Wells Fire Chief Ryan Dunn confirmed that a tornado did appear to have hit the area. However, no critical injuries or deaths have been reported at this time.
The tornado struck about 45 miles west of Fort Worth. Residents are urged to stay indoors as recovery efforts begin.
