Nathan Chasing Horse, known for his role in ‘Dances With Wolves’, was sentenced to life in prison for a series of sexual assaults spanning two decades. A jury found him guilty on 13 of 21 charges related to these heinous acts.
The assaults involved victims as young as 14 years old. Chasing Horse exploited his position as a spiritual leader to abuse Indigenous women and girls.
He was arrested in early 2023 following a monthslong investigation by Las Vegas police. During the raid, authorities discovered memory cards containing videos of the sexual assaults.
Chasing Horse denied the charges against him, claiming it was a miscarriage of justice. “This is a miscarriage of justice,” he stated during the trial.
His case has led to more criminal charges pending in Canada. A warrant against him remains outstanding in Alberta, where law enforcement continues to investigate.
Chasing Horse was known for portraying Smiles a Lot in ‘Dances With Wolves’. His actions have shocked many, especially given his background—he was born on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Sicangu Sioux.
As of midday, law enforcement officials are following up with more charges against him across multiple states. British Columbia prosecutors will assess next steps after Chasing Horse’s appeals are exhausted.
