Thermos Recall: Over 8 Million Food Jars and Bottles Affected

thermos recall — US news

Thermos is recalling more than 8 million food jars and bottles due to a defect causing stoppers to forcefully eject. The recall follows reports of severe injuries, including three cases of permanent vision loss.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall early Tuesday. They stated, “Consumers should stop using the recalled Food Jars and Bottles immediately and contact Thermos to receive a free replacement pressure relief stopper or replacement Bottle, depending on the model.”

The affected products include approximately 5.8 million Stainless King Food Jars and 2.3 million Sportsman Food & Beverage Bottles. These items were sold from March 2008 through July 2024 at retailers like Target and Walmart.

According to Thermos, they received 27 reports of injuries related to the ejected stoppers. The stoppers lack a pressure-relief mechanism, which allows pressure to build up inside the containers.

The recalled models are:

  • SK3000 (16 oz)
  • SK3020 (24 oz)
  • SK3010 (40 oz)

As of midday Tuesday, consumers are urged to stop using these products immediately. The CPSC warned that if perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened, leading to serious impact injury and laceration hazards.

Officials have not confirmed whether additional models may be affected by this recall. Consumers seeking replacements can contact Thermos directly for further assistance.
