Trump passport: State Department to release commemorative U.S. passports

The State Department is rolling out a limited number of U.S. passports featuring President Donald Trump’s image as part of the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The new passport designs will display Trump’s image on the inside cover, along with the text of the Declaration of Independence and his signature in gold.

Officials plan to produce a limited run of 25,000 Trump-emblazoned passports. The launch is expected to coincide with the national celebration in July.

The back cover will showcase an American flag with ‘250’ centered between the 13 stars, marking this historic occasion.

No modern U.S. passport has featured the image of a sitting president until now. Tommy Pigott from the State Department stated, “As the United States celebrates America’s 250th anniversary in July, the State Department is preparing to release a limited number of specially designed U.S. passports to commemorate this historic occasion.”

However, some observers have criticized this decision. Edward Kolla described it as “wacky,” highlighting concerns about including a president’s image on such an important document.

As of midday, the new passport design is still awaiting approval from relevant authorities.
