As of early Tuesday, Kopitar’s final game took place on April 26, 2026. The Kings lost to the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 in Game 4 of the first round of the playoffs, resulting in a sweep.

Kopitar played a franchise-record 1,521 games for the Kings. He scored an impressive total of 1,316 points—452 goals and 864 assists—over his career.

He served as captain since 2016 and was honored by opposing teams throughout the season with tributes and ovations. “It’s been one hell of a ride for 20 years,” Kopitar said. “Not the way we wanted to go out, but it happened, and we got to live with it.”

During his playoff career, he participated in 107 games and recorded 89 points—27 goals and 62 assists. His last goal came on March 28, 2026.

Brent Burns praised Kopitar’s impact both on and off the ice: “He’s a special guy with what he’s done and what he’s meant to this city.” Drew Doughty added, “I’m trying not to think about it right now, but man, he had an unbelievable career.”

The Los Angeles Kings roster will now look to fill the void left by their iconic leader. Observers anticipate that discussions regarding his legacy will continue as fans reflect on his contributions to hockey.
