A powerful EF-4 tornado struck Enid, Oklahoma, late Tuesday evening. The storm caused significant damage and injuries but, remarkably, no fatalities have been reported.
As of early Wednesday, at least 10 to 15 injuries were confirmed. The tornado primarily impacted the Gray Ridge neighborhood, where approximately 40 homes sustained damage.
The National Weather Service declared a tornado emergency for parts of Enid as a large and destructive tornado was identified in the area. Winds reached speeds characteristic of an EF-4 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale.
Governor Kevin Stitt expressed solidarity with the Enid community. “Please join me in praying for the Enid community, which has been severely impacted by tonight’s tornado,” he stated.
Vance Air Force Base closed its operations due to power and water restoration efforts following the storm. Residents sought shelter as the severe weather outbreak unfolded.
Officials have not confirmed the full extent of damage across all areas affected by the tornado. First responders are actively assessing the situation.
This incident marks the first EF-4 tornado in Garfield County since April 26, 1991. Local resident David Mason remarked on the situation: “I am very grateful to report that while homes have sustained significant damage, there have been no fatalities and only minor injuries sustained.”
Dave Lamerton added, “Luckily, it’s just damage and we can replace that. You can’t replace people.” The community is rallying together as recovery efforts begin.
As of midday Wednesday, emergency services continue to respond to calls for assistance. The Red Cross is mobilizing resources to support those affected by this devastating event.
More updates will follow as officials gather additional information regarding damages and ongoing recovery efforts.
