In the Indiana primary elections held on May 5, 2026, six incumbents successfully fended off challengers. The results set the stage for tightly contested races in the upcoming general election.
Jim Baird defeated Craig Haggard in the 4th Congressional District, securing 60% of the votes. He expressed gratitude to his supporters, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful to my family and to the dedicated supporters and volunteers who stood with us every step of the way.”
In the 7th Congressional District, André Carson received over 63% of the votes. He noted that their efforts bring them closer to addressing critical issues facing their community.
Other notable outcomes include Frank Mrvan winning his primary and set to face Barb Regnitz in November. Jefferson Shreve won with 53%, while Victoria Spartz triumphed against Scott King with 59.9%.
The Democratic primary for the 5th Congressional District saw J.D. Ford garner roughly 42%, while Marlin Stutzman won over Jon Kenworthy with more than 66% in the 3rd District.
Kenny Cavanaugh made headlines by defeating incumbent Scottie Maples in the Clark County sheriff primary with more than 64%. Cavanaugh acknowledged Maples’ service during his victory speech.
Democrat Jamee Decio also achieved a significant win over Shaun Maeyens, receiving more than 70%. Meanwhile, Mary Allen is projected to win in the 8th District, and Brad Meyer is likely to take the 9th District primary.
The incumbents’ ability to fend off challenges reflects their established positions within Indiana’s political landscape. However, several races remain uncertain as they head into the general election.
