The Indy Mini Marathon celebrates its 50th running with over 20,000 participants in Indianapolis on May 2, 2026. This milestone reflects its evolution into a major international event.

The first race took place in 1977 at Monument Circle. Since then, it has grown from a modest local event into an internationally recognized running celebration.

Five dedicated alumni have completed all 50 runnings of the race. Lindsay Labas remarked, “We have five Indy alumni who have done this race all 50 years, so they just keep coming back.”

The race features a 13.1-mile half-marathon and a 5K distance. The course includes a 2.5-mile lap around the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Runners will receive a golden commemorative medal for finishing this year. The event coincides with the 70th anniversary of the 500 Festival and the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The weather forecast predicts temperatures around 39 degrees Fahrenheit, which could impact runners’ performance. Cecilio Martinez expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I like the course. I like the people. I love Indy Mini.”

The race is known for being flat and fast, making it ideal for personal records. James Day said, “We’re just excited about the experience.”

This year’s record participation underscores the growing popularity of the event among both local and international runners.
