Kevin Durant Injured Ahead of Playoff Opener Against Lakers

Kevin Durant missed the Houston Rockets’ playoff opener against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a knee injury.

As of early Tuesday, coach Ime Udoka confirmed that Durant was ruled out for Game 1. The injury occurred during practice when he suffered a right knee contusion.

Durant’s absence is significant. He averaged 26.0 points per game during the regular season and is crucial for the Rockets’ playoff success.

Reed Sheppard started in Durant’s place for Game 1. The Rockets have shown resilience, going 4-0 without him in the lineup this season.

Durant’s knee injury has been described as very tender, limiting his movement considerably. Coach Udoka noted, “It’s very tender, tough to bend certain ways.”

Despite concerns, medical imaging revealed no structural damage. However, Udoka expressed caution: “Pain tolerance is one thing, but actually limited movement is more the cause [of Durant being out].”

The Rockets secured the No. 5 seed in the playoffs and are aiming for a deep run. This marks Durant’s 14th trip to the NBA playoffs.

In addition to Durant, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves were also unavailable for the Lakers in Game 1, adding to the stakes of this matchup.

Udoka remains hopeful about Durant’s return, stating, “Hopefully it’s a one game thing.” Yet, further developments are expected as the series progresses.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding his availability for future games. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as this situation unfolds.
