An altercation reportedly occurred between Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo and former teammate Tyler Herro on Friday at a practice court in Las Vegas. Reports indicate that Adebayo struck Herro during the incident. No injuries have been reported in connection with the scuffle.
The confrontation reportedly began when Adebayo approached Herro regarding comments the guard had made on social media. These comments critiqued Adebayo after their seven-year tenure together in Miami concluded with Herro’s trade. The Heat organization stated they are aware of the incident but are not commenting, while the Milwaukee Bucks also declined to comment.
Social Media Comments Preceded Altercation
Earlier this month, a screenshot of a social media conversation surfaced, showing Herro’s remarks about Adebayo. Herro questioned the compensation of a player making a significant salary, implying it was for being a top-tier defender only on certain nights. He also suggested that if he were healthy, he would be the one needing support, referencing playoff priorities.
Another social media graphic posted by Herro after his trade featured players with low field goal percentages from midrange. This graphic included Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was traded to Miami, and Adebayo. Antetokounmpo was listed first with 26.8 percent, while Adebayo was tenth at 35.9 percent.
Direct messages, which were reportedly leaked, also showed Herro making critical statements about the Heat center. In one instance, Herro allegedly argued that a player should not earn a substantial salary for being a good defender only some of the time, without specifically naming Adebayo.
Adebayo is currently playing under a three-year, $160 million deal with Miami. Despite the alleged comments, Adebayo did not earn $60 million during the 2025-26 season and is not expected to earn that amount next season either.
Trade Details and Team Dynamics
The tension between Adebayo and Herro is notable given their history, having spent seven seasons as teammates. Herro was drafted by the Heat in 2019 with the No. 13 overall pick. During his time in Miami, he averaged 19.5 points, five rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
Herro’s departure from Miami was part of a significant trade that sent Antetokounmpo to the Heat. In the blockbuster deal, the Heat acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks. In exchange, Milwaukee received Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap, and one second-round pick.
This trade means the Heat will not have to contend with potential chemistry issues between Adebayo and Herro in the upcoming season. Herro is anticipated to be the primary scoring option for Milwaukee, where he averaged 19.5 points per game during his tenure in Miami.
There has been a reported level of resentment among several former Miami Heat players concerning Adebayo’s standing within the organization. According to one report, players felt Adebayo was considered the “chosen one” in Miami, never facing trade rumors and receiving a substantial contract extension.
Adebayo, who is 28 years old, has played all nine seasons of his career with the Heat since being selected with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He has earned six All-Defensive selections and three All-Star nods, contributing to the team’s two NBA Finals appearances.
During the 2025-26 season, Adebayo averaged 20.1 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, with a shooting percentage of 44.2 percent from the field. He also expanded his shooting range, making 127 three-pointers after hitting 102 triples over his first eight seasons combined. Adebayo will now share the spotlight with Antetokounmpo as they aim to improve the Heat‘s position in the Eastern Conference standings, following a 43-39 finish.
Herro was seen courtside at the Heat–Bucks summer league game on Friday afternoon, where he reportedly conversed with Milwaukee personnel.
