Road closures for the Pittsburgh Marathon will begin as early as Friday, affecting traffic throughout Downtown Pittsburgh over the weekend. Thousands of runners will participate in the marathon on Sunday.
Road closures will start at noon on Friday on the Boulevard of the Allies, specifically between Wood Street and Stanwix Street. This closure is part of preparations for the marathon.
Additionally, closures for related events such as the 5K race and Pittsburgh Kids Marathon will commence at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday, road closures for the marathon will initiate at 1:45 a.m. and are expected to last until about 2:30 p.m. The course will take participants through 14 city neighborhoods, showcasing various parts of Pittsburgh.
The Boulevard of the Allies is anticipated to reopen in the evening on Sunday. P3R, the organizing body for the marathon, will place no parking signs along affected streets.
Vehicles parked in violation of these signs will be towed. Troy Schooley from P3R emphasized, “If you have your car parked on the street that has a no parking sign, make sure you take care of that because the last thing we want to do is tow cars.”
Officials have not disclosed any further details regarding potential additional closures or impacts on public transportation during this period.
