Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the Truist Championship to focus on defending his PGA Championship title. This decision significantly boosts Rory McIlroy’s chances of winning his fifth title at the event.
As of early Tuesday, Scheffler’s absence leaves a notable gap in the competition. The Truist Championship, held at the Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina, will still feature nearly all of the world’s elite players.
McIlroy has already won this tournament four times and aims to add another victory. The winner’s prize for this year’s event is set at $3.6 million.
Russell Henley is another notable absentee alongside Scheffler. His withdrawal also impacts the competitive landscape of this Signature Event on the PGA Tour.
Rory McIlroy expressed his focus on major tournaments, stating, “I’m at a point in my career where I really have to target the bigger events, the four Major championships, the Ryder Cup.” His commitment to these prestigious events underscores his determination.
The Truist Championship was previously known as the Wells Fargo Championship and first staged in 2003. It remains a highly anticipated stop on the PGA Tour calendar.
