Will Tim Cook remain at the helm of Apple? No. He will transition to Executive Chairman on September 1, 2026.
John Ternus will take over as CEO on the same day.
This change comes after a unanimous decision by Apple’s Board of Directors.
Tim Cook has led Apple since 2011. During his tenure, the company’s market capitalization soared from approximately $350 billion to $4 trillion.
Under his guidance, Apple’s yearly revenue increased significantly—from $108 billion in fiscal year 2011 to over $416 billion in fiscal year 2025.
Cook has overseen the launch of major products including the Apple Watch and AirPods. He joined Apple in 1998 and succeeded Steve Jobs as CEO.
John Ternus joined Apple in 2001 and became vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2013. He has played a crucial role in developing products like the iPhone and MacBook Neo.
Ternus expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead Apple, stating, “I am profoundly grateful for this opportunity to carry Apple’s mission forward.”
Arthur Levinson will assume the role of lead independent director alongside these executive changes.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding how this transition will affect Apple’s future strategies.
Still, both leaders are optimistic about Apple’s trajectory moving forward.
