Oil prices have sharply fluctuated today due to reports of a potential U.S.-Iran deal aimed at ending the war. As of early Tuesday, the price of oil sits at $106.52 per barrel, reflecting a significant decrease.

The price of oil yesterday was $116.55 per barrel, marking an 8.60% drop. Just one month ago, it was at $114.14 per barrel, a decrease of 6.67%. A year ago, oil was priced at $62.66 per barrel, indicating a remarkable increase of nearly 70% over the past year.

U.S. crude oil prices plunged by as much as 15% to $88 per barrel following the news of the potential agreement with Iran. International Brent crude oil also saw a sharp decline, dropping up to 11% to around $96 per barrel.

As of 9 a.m. ET, U.S. crude was trading approximately $95 per barrel while Brent was about $103. The average retail gas price in the U.S. has jumped past $4.50 per gallon for the first time since July 2022.

This fluctuation in oil prices is tied to ongoing Iran nuclear negotiations, which could potentially lead to increased oil exports from Iran if an agreement is reached. Analysts warn that banning energy exports could backfire.

Uncertainties remain regarding the timeline and specifics of any potential deal between the U.S. and Iran, leaving markets on edge.
